Demonstrating
artisans and those working in their own studios offer an opportunity for
visitors to watch artists at work.
Gary & Linda Davis, weavers, Weathertop Wovens: Working with hand-spun wools on hand-built looms in their studio and shop, Gary and Linda produce fine handwovens of natural fibers, including ruanas, jackets, pullovers and more. Robert Richardson, enamel jewelry, Enamel Shop: You can often catch Robert working at the back of his shop, creating a delightful array of necklaces, earrings, bracelets, broaches and more. Allen Parker, glassblower, the Hitchin’ Post: A second-generation Silvertonian, Allen creates graceful, intricate glass forms that have long been a favorite of locals and visitors. Claudia deLong Pope, painter, Mountain Lion Gallery: Claudia’s colorful, whimsical images celebrate life and reflect her interest in cultures of the Southwest and around the world. (The gallery also carries work by other local artists.) Pat and Pete McKay, featherwork, The Sun House: One-of-a-kind original creations including earrings, necklaces, fans, medicine wheels and dreamcatchers all created from feathers. (The gallery also exhibits locally produced arts and crafts.) Ruth Ann Caitland, fiber, clay and watercolor artist, Silverton Artworks: A visit to this studio (formerly a bottling works) of this versatile artist, in operation since 1982, is a multiple treat. Check out the huge loom in front, pottery studio in back, and incredible array of sculpture, pottery, basketry, watercolor and weavings. Bob Schmidt, woodworker, Signature Furniture Gallery: Bob has been creating fine furniture, cabinets, windows and doors for twenty-four years. His designs evoke a craftsman style, using a variety of woods. EXHIBITING IN THEIR OWN GALLERIES... Edith Eggett, painter, Kurrowong Gallery/Ye Olde Livery: Edith, a native of Australia, has been painting spiritual primitives for over forty years, twenty of them in Silverton—each painting has a special meaning for both artist and owner. Amy Grogan, painter, Grogan Fine Art: A longtime painter, Amy’s specialty is pastels, and her command of the medium is outstanding. Her delightful, airy gallery also carries work by other local artists. Jay Canode, photographer and mixed media artist: Jay’s exhibits are at the Avalanche Coffee House, where he not only serves up fine art, but fine food as well. EXHIBITING IN SILVERTON... Sledmaker Brice Hoskin builds handmade sleds that are elegant, fun, functional and perfect for kids of all ages—at The Sun House. Potter Ann Friedman creates hand-painted pottery and custom gift platters. Woodworker Phil Dodd creates hand-crafted wooden boxes. Both at the Hummingbird Shop. SHOWN BY APPOINTMENT ONLY... Painter Judy Graham’s work reflects the seductive beauty of the San Juans... Jeweler Michael Geryak utilizes inlays of exotic stones and rare hardwoods set in gold and silver... The lyrical paintings of painter Eileen Fjerstad are inspired by the mountains and slickrock desert country. Please see the map on the next page for a walking tour and contact information for SHAG artists. Also, please see display ad for "Pumas on Parade."
